The Department of Plastic Surgery at Chang Gung Memorial Hospital was founded in 1976, simultaneously with the establishment of the hospital, under the leadership of the former director, Dr. Samuel Noordhoff.
By 1992, the department had grown substantially , prompting the subdivisionalzation of departments into several specialized centers: the Craniofacial Center, Limb Reconstruction and Microsurgery Center, Burn Center, and General Plastic and Aesthetic Surgery. In 2003, due to organizational restructuring, the Burn Center and General Aesthetic Surgery were integrated into the General Plastic Surgery Department, where they remain to this day.
