Bilateral Cleft Lip Repair
Professor Lun-Jou Lo presented the Chang Gung Craniofacial Center’s comprehensive strategy for bilateral cleft lip and palate repair, emphasizing management of protruding premaxilla and long-term treatment outcomes. The lecture reviewed presurgical nasoalveolar molding, intraoperative molding, muscle reconstruction, nasal floor repair, selective premaxillary setback, and postoperative nasal stenting. Surgical principles aimed to optimize facial growth, nasal symmetry, lip function, and occlusion while minimizing secondary revisions during childhood. Long-term follow-up data spanning two decades demonstrated stable functional and aesthetic outcomes, supported by published clinical evidence. The presentation highlighted the importance of standardized protocols and multidisciplinary care in achieving durable, predictable results for patients with bilateral cleft lip and palate.
